Glossary

This is a glossary of terms used within the Helix system. Where possible, we have provided definitions and examples to help you bust through the jargon.

Unit

A single person within your organisation.

Example

Alice is a police officer, employed within the organisation. She is represented within the Helix system as a unit.

Asset

A physical item that can be assigned to a resource.

Example

The police car A01 is an asset within the Helix system. It can be assigned to a resource, such as a police officer.

Resource

A transient deployable entity within Helix.

Example

Alice and Bob are both police officers. Their role is to respond to inbound incidents in the West End of the city. They have been allocated car A01 for their shift, and their call sign is DD50.

They will be represented within the Helix system as a resource, with Alice and Bob as units and the police car as an asset.

Shadow Resource

A resource that is generated automatically by the system when a unit is deployed without any additional units or assets.

Example

Alice has been deployed to an incident close to the station. She does not have a car and is working alone. Her warrant number is 1234 which is used as her display name in Helix.

In this case, a shadow resource will be created for Alice, with the callsign (1234).
