Resources

A Resource is a combination of Units and Assets which are grouped together for a specific

Shadow Resources

There are times where a unit is deployed without any additional units, and/or without any assets. In these cases, a "Shadow Resource" is created. This is a resource which is generated by the system automatically to represent the unit when deployed to an incident.

A Shadow Resource will always have the callsign (<DisplayName>), where <DisplayName> is the display name parameter within the unit record (commonly a warrant number or personal issue callsign).

Resource Creation

Resources can be created in two ways:

Proactive Resource Creation

This is the recommended method for creating resources to ensure data quality.

Select Resources > Create Resource from the Helix Dispatcher application to create a new resource. You will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Resource Name (Callsign) - The callsign of the resource. This is a unique identifier for the resource. Refer to your organisation's naming conventions for guidance.

  • Resource Group - The group to assign the resource to. This is used to categorise resources within the system but is not a required field. Generally speaking, this will be the team the resource is assigned to.

  • Linked Entities

    • Units - The units which are part of the resource. You can add multiple units to a resource.

    • Assets - The assets which are part of the resource. You can add multiple assets to a resource.

A resource must have at least one unit, but does not require any assets.

Reactive Resource Creation

If a unit is deployed to an incident without a resource being created, a Shadow Resource will be created automatically by the system. This will be represented by the unit's display name (e.g. warrant number) in brackets.

You can update this Shadow Resource to a full resource by selecting the unit in the Helix Dispatcher application and clicking Create Resource.

Idle Resources

A Resource which does not receive a status update within a set period of time (defined by your organisation) will be marked as "Idle". This is to help identify resources which are no longer in use and can be released for other tasks.

Status updates are usually automated telemetry data from the unit or an asset (e.g. a car's telematic data recorder or a radio). If a resource is marked as Idle, it can be reactivated by updating the status of the resource in the Helix Dispatcher application.

If your organisation administrator has enabled the feature, the Transfer Box for an incident's queue will receive an action transfer (The Transfer Box) to confirm the resource is still in use.
